A simple scratchpad that auto-saves to this browser’s localStorage as you type, with live word, character and line counts plus reading-time estimate. Copy to clipboard, flush-save on demand, download .txt or .md backups, or clear with confirmation. Restore happens automatically on next visit on the same device/browser profile. Nothing is uploaded — ideal for meeting notes, quotes and quick drafts without opening a heavy editor.

About Online Notepad (Auto-Saving & Distraction Free)
The component keeps content in React state and debounces localStorage.setItem under a versioned key so schema changes do not collide with older entries. Words are counted as whitespace-separated tokens on a trimmed string; lines are newline splits; reading time assumes ~200 words per minute. On mount it tries to restore any existing value and reports “Restored from this browser”. Debounced saves avoid writing on every keystroke while blur and explicit Save flush immediately. QuotaExceededError or blocked storage surfaces a non-blocking warning while the textarea remains fully usable in memory — use Download before closing the tab if storage is full. Copy uses the async Clipboard API inside try/catch because insecure origins and permission policies can reject it; Download falls back to Blob + object URL + temporary <a download>. Private windows clear storage when the session ends; site-data clearing (privacy tools) also wipes notes — hence the one-click .txt/.md export. No service, account or network call is involved at any point.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are my notes stored?
Only in this browser’s localStorage for this site origin — not on our servers.
Will notes sync across devices?
No sync. Use Download .TXT/.MD and transfer manually if you need another machine.
Why did notes disappear?
Private browsing, cleared site data, or a different browser profile isolates storage — export before closing private windows.
Is there a size limit?
Browsers typically allow a few MB of localStorage; the tool warns if a write fails (quota) while keeping text in memory.
Does it upload keystrokes?
No — typing never leaves the tab.
