About Meme Generator & Text on Image
The meme canvas composites a bitmap background with text drawn via Canvas 2D. Impact-style captions use bold sans fonts (Impact, Arial Black fallbacks), all-caps transformation and a thick black stroke (ctx.strokeText with lineJoin round) behind white fill (fillText after stroke) so words stay readable on busy photos. Wrapping splits lines on word boundaries when text exceeds the safe margin (default 6% padding each side). Dual captions anchor top and bottom by default (textAlign center; baseline top/bottom) but become draggable: pointer events map client coordinates into canvas space accounting for CSS scale vs pixel ratio, updating each block’s x/y. Multiple lines are stacked with line-height ≈ 1.15 × fontSize. Export re-renders at full canvas resolution (not the CSS-preview size) to avoid blurry downloads; PNG preserves quality, JPEG alternative available with quality slider for smaller files. Rotation/skew are omitted to keep the tool focused; emoji render through the platform color font when supported. Large photos are capped at a max dimension (e.g. 4096 px) to keep memory bounded on phones. All processing is local — image bytes never hit a network API.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my image uploaded?
No — the photo stays in the tab; drawing and export use canvas only.
Is there a watermark?
Never. Downloads are clean PNGs/JPEGs at full processing size.
Can I add more than two text blocks?
Top/bottom plus free-dragged custom captions cover common layouts; advanced multi-layer editing belongs in the photo editor.
What size should memes be?
Common sizes: 1200×675 (social link), 1080×1080 (square), 1080×1920 (story). Preset canvases cover these ratios.
Why is text slightly blurry on export?
Exports re-render at full pixel resolution — if the source image itself is low-res, text inherits that limit; start with a larger photo.
