Fraction Calculator & Simplifier Online Free
Work with fractions exactly — no floating-point drift. Enter any two fractions as n/d (or whole numbers), pick + − × ÷, and get the result reduced to lowest terms by GCD, plus mixed-number form, decimal and percent equivalents side by side. Invalid input (zero denominator, stray characters) raises a clear error instead of silent NaN. Ideal for students checking homework, parents helping with math night, and anyone who needs rational arithmetic they can trust.

How to Use Fraction Calculator & Simplifier
- Step 1: Enter fraction A as numerator/denominator (e.g. 3/4) or a whole number.
- Step 2: Choose the operation: add (+), subtract (−), multiply (×) or divide (÷).
- Step 3: Enter fraction B the same way.
- Step 4: Press Calc — exact result, mixed number, decimal and percent appear together.
- Step 5: Tweak inputs and recalculate; values stay reduced automatically every time.
About Fraction Calculator & Simplifier
Fraction arithmetic follows four classic rules on exact rational numbers. Addition and subtraction need a common denominator: a/b ± c/d = (a·d ± c·b)/(b·d). Multiplication multiplies straight across: (a·b)/(c·d). Division multiplies by the reciprocal: (a/b) ÷ (c/d) = (a·b)/(d·c), which fails fast if c = 0. After every operation the tool reduces the result by the greatest common divisor of numerator and denominator — computed with the Euclidean algorithm (repeated remainder division) — so 4/8 becomes 1/2 and 18/24 becomes 3/4. Signs are normalized: negative denominators flip to the numerator (−3/−4 → 3/4), keeping comparisons and display consistent. An improper fraction like 23/20 converts to the mixed number 1 3/20 by splitting whole = trunc(n/d) and remainder = |n mod d|; mixed input like 1 3/4 is parsed as (1×4+3)/4 = 7/4 before operating. Decimal output is n ÷ d in IEEE-754 (exact for small values, repeating decimals rounded for display); percent multiplies that decimal by 100. Because intermediate products can grow large (b·d denominators), results stay in JS number space comfortably for textbook-sized values; extremely large numerators could lose integer precision beyond 2^53 — fine for homework, not for cryptographic big-int fractions. Parsing accepts spaces around the slash and rejects alphabetic junk with a message naming the bad token. Everything runs client-side; students can iterate through practice sets without waiting on a server.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are results always fully simplified?
Yes — every result is reduced by GCD before display, so 18/24 shows as 3/4.
Can I enter mixed numbers like 1 1/2?
Enter improper form (3/2) or split the mixed number; parsing guidance appears under the inputs.
What happens if the denominator is zero?
An explicit error is shown — division by zero fraction is mathematically undefined.
Do decimals convert back to fractions?
This tool starts from fraction inputs; use exact n/d entries for lossless rational math.
Is any data sent to a server?
No — all arithmetic runs locally in your browser tab.
